The journey begins!
Exit the hustle and bustle of the city center towards the serene Greek countryside of the Peloponnese.
On your way, you shouldn’t miss a short stop at the Isthmus of Corinth to marvel on the Corinth Canal.
You will then drive towards Agamemnon’s kingdom to visit Mycenae, one of the most thriving cities of Bronze Age Greece and the epicenter of the Mycenaean civilization. Your local state-licensed guide will be waiting for you at the entrance of the archeological site. Surrounded by massive walls and dating from the Late Bronze Era, you will admire the Acropolis entrance, the “Lion Gate,” its important archeological museum, the Treasury of Atreus (the vaulted tomb of King Agamemnon), and many more.
Once your guided tour is over, you could visit the Venetian seafront town of Nafplio, the first capital of modern Greece and one of the most picturesque cities of Greece. Alternatively, you could extend your historical exploration by visiting Epidaurus’s archeological site.
While journeying back to Athens, if you have time, you could make a short stop to the archeological site of Ancient Corinth or the stunning acropolis of Corinth, called “Acrocorinth”.
Approximate driving time:
3.5 hours (275 kilometers)
