The journey begins!
Exit the city center’s hustle and bustle and head towards your destination, Eleusina, which is just a breath
away from Athens.
Home to the Eleusinian Mysteries -secret religious rites of ancient Greece- but also as the birthplace of Aeschylus, the father of ancient Greek tragedy, used to be one of the five holy cities of antiquity.
Nowadays, in the archeological site of Eleusina, amongst others, you will admire the Roman courtyard where the temple of Artemis Propylaea is located, the remains of a fountain, and two triumphal arches. In the company of your state-licensed guide, who will be traveling with you from Athens, you will travel back in time and listen to great myths and stories of the past.
Once there, it’s worth visiting the small archeological museum featuring a collection of objects dating from the 5th century BC and the surviving art and sculpture from the site.
Eleusis today is a modern industrial site having, however, deep ties to its cultural past. The naturally-sheltered port of Eleusis filled with shipwrecks and surrounded by factories offers many opportunities for photo enthusiasts. While being at its vibrant little town with its characteristic pedestrian path and marina, you will feel as if you are transferred to another reality!
