The journey begins!
Exit the city center’s hustle and bustle and head towards the majestic Cape Sounio, a rocky promontory situated at the southeastern tip of Attica.
The drive along the impressive coastline of Attica is an experience in itself. The winding road follows the contours of the countless successive little coves and bays with crystal waters, offering fantastic views of this dramatic landscape which the ancients associated with Poseidon’s kingdom.
On your way to Sounio, you will make a stop at an innovative space, an urban orchard dedicated to learning from nature, where you will join one of their
fun educational activities, such as an olive tasting or honey tasting.
Continue your journey with a “must-visit” landmark of this area, the spectacular marble Temple of Poseidon, honoring the ancient Greek god of the sea dating back to the fifth century BCE.
Before journeying back to Athens, you could visit the port town of Lavrion, the largest silver-mining center in both ancient and modern Greece, with its numerous traditional fish taverns located at the fish market, its graphic yacht harbor, and quiet paved alleys.
Approximate driving time:
2.5 hours (150 kilometers)
