Day 0: Arrival & Settling In
Upon your arrival our English speaking driver will welcome you and transfer you to your inner Athens hotel in the comfort of a luxury vehicle. As the participants will be arriving in stages, this is going to be a very relaxed day, perfect for settling in and getting to meet each other. Before dinner we will have an orientation session and a walk around Plaka as it comes alive for the night, with dinner in the Strofi Restaurant. Afterwards, cameras and tripods at the ready, we will visit some of Athens’ famous places by night! Overnight stay in Athens.
Day 1: Athens
The tour begins with a walk around and up the Acropolis rock to view the Parthenon, where you can get those ‘essential’ photos and take in the entire city below you. From there we make our way to the Areopagus –also called Mars Hill and the Pnyx, then down to the civic center of Ancient Athens , the Agora. From here we stroll around Plaka, Monastiraki and Syntagma areas to see the street life, food markets and the changing of the guards in front of the Parliament on Syntagma square (Constitution square). In the afternoon we will head to more photographic spots in order to take in amazing views overlooking the city. Lunch is at a local tavern in Plaka area and dinner at Kuzina Restaurant. Overnight stay in Athens.
Day 2: Into the Peloponnese
Enjoy your breakfast at your hotel and be prepared for your journey to the Greek countryside. With a very early start we head off to the Corinthian Gulf, with a visit to the Canal itself. From there we will visit the ruins of ancient Corinth and then on to the mythical site of Nemea, the home Herakles’(Hercules) famous lion.
The vineyards and wine cellars of Semeli Winery are of great interest and that’s exactly where we will indulge in a delicious lunch. In the afternoon we will see the open-air water power museum and attend cultural activities at Dimitsana village, followed by dinner and a welcome sleep. Overnight stay in Dimitsana.
Day 3: Wild Nature of the Peloponnese peninsula
For the adventurous, a trek through the spectacular Lousios Gorge, also visiting Philosophou and Prodromou monasteries and ancient Gortys. Don’t worry, for non-trekkers we have a bus, which will follow the trail, but jump ahead to let people do some rafting, which is also great for photo shoots. Lunch is ‘in the field’, followed by a trip to the atmospheric town of Nafplio. At night we will enjoy our dinner at a local restaurant in Nafplio and then have a walkaround/photoshoot. Overnight stay in Nafplio.
Day 4: Ancient Places
This is a day for photography and discovery, for we have planned a visit to two very ancient sites: Mycenae and Tiryns. A gastronomic interval in our archaeological explorations for a wonderful lunch in the Fougaro Restaurant, situated in a converted factory, gives you a chance of photographing Greek cuisine. Fresh from tramping around ancient pottery, you get to visit a pottery workshop to be shown how it is made. We might also be able to fit in some traditional village dancing. Dinner is in Nafplio, which is also where we sleep. Overnight stay in Nafplio.
Day 5: To the Sea and the Greek Islands
After an early morning walk up to the Venetian fortress of Palamidi that dominates Nafplio and the Bourtzi castle located in the middle of the harbor we will drive to the beautiful coastal town of Ermioni and from there jump aboard the boat to Hydra island, where we spend the rest of the day, evening and night. Lots of things to photograph, with plenty of time to relax, swim, fish and explore this picturesque island, where automobiles are forbidden! Overnight stay in Hydra.
Day 6: Athens
Next morning, with plenty of time to see the fishermen coming in with their catch, we’ll slowly prepare to leave this lovely island for a visit to ancient Epidauros, where we will also have lunch in its quiet bay. In the afternoon we will stop by Eleusis, the epicenter of the Eleusinian Cult’s Mysteries, where Hades took Persephone down to the Underworld. We shall also stand on the very spot Xerxes sat as he watched over the Persian fleet’s defeat at the naval battle of Salamis. We end our day with a delicious seafood dinner in Piraeus and night shots of its harbor before returning to our hotel in Athens. Overnight stay in Athens.
Day 7: Attica region
Visiting Greece is nothing without seeing the famous towns of Marathon and Sounion, so we take you on a tour of the coast of Attica. Lunch is in Laurion, site of the silver mines that made Athens rich, sunset over Poseidon’s temple at the archaeological site of Sounion to capture those unforgettable images, then our last, celebratory dinner at one of the beachfront taverns. Then, for the absolutely determined, a final night tour of Athens. Overnight stay in Athens.
Day 8: Departure
Your epic journey into time has come to an end. It’s time to farewell your newfound friends and venture to the airport for your way back home.
